Device Features Low Profile of 0.6mm for Board Space Savings in Portable Electronics
3 – line ESD Protection for USB – OTG
(pressebox) Malvern, Pennsylvania, 14.11.2008 – Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today released a compact new ESD-protection array featuring a low capacitance and leakage current to protect USB-OTG ports against transient voltage signals. The new device provides three lines of USB ESD protection at a 5.5-V working range, and one line of VBUS protection at a 12-V working range.
The VBUS053AZ-HAF is packaged in the leadless LLP75-7L, with a 1.6-mm by 1.6-mm footprint and an ultra-low profile of 0.6 mm to minimize the board space required for active ESD protection in high-speed data applications, such as USB 2.0 and HDMI in HDTVs and mobile electronics, including portable gaming systems, MP3 players, and cell phones.
The new device features a low load capacitance of 0.7pF for the three data lines D+, D-, and ID, and a low maximum leakage current of 0.085 A at the working voltage of 3.3V, and 1 A at 5.5V. The VBUS053AZ-HAF offers a low maximum clamping voltage of less than 4.1V at 3 A for the data lines, and less than 30V at 8A for the VBUS line.
The bus port protection array provides transient protection as per IEC 61000 4 2 (ESD) at 15kV (air and contact discharge), and IEC 61000 4 5 (lightning) from 3A. The lead (Pb)-free device features a halogen-free molding compound, and is compliant with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC.
Samples of the new USB-OTG bus port protection array in the compact LLP75-7L package are available now. Production quantities will be available in Q4 2008, with lead times of ten weeks for large orders.
