(pressebox) Essen, 24.04.2009, In the second RWE power auction for the year 2009, European industrial companies purchased 267 megawatts (MW) of power for delivery in the year 2010. The auction, which was conducted by an independent auctioneer and monitored by a trustee, lasted several rounds.

Prices reached ?50.58 per MWh for the base-load product and ?58.97 per MWh for the profiled product1. On 22 April 2009, the day before the auction, the base-load product was being traded on the EEX for ?52.25 per MWh.

At these quarterly auctions, RWE offers industrial companies around 1,575 MW annually from hard-coal and lignite power plants for the 2009 to 2012 supply period. This equates to a total power volume of 6,300 MW or 46,000 GWh, which is almost as much as RWE’s annual sales to industrial customers in Germany.

The next power auction for the 2010 supply year will be held on 17 June 2009. More information for any interested companies is available from www.rwe-stromauktion.de.
