Pickering Interfaces Preview for DMES Del Mar Electronics Show, San Diego, May 6th -7th, 2009

(pressebox) Clacton-on-Sea UK,, 16.04.2009, Pickering Interfaces has continued to regularly release new products in both the LXI and the PXI platforms. According to Bob Stasonis, Marketing Manager for Pickering Interfaces USA , "LXI enquiries have been particularly strong in the last 12 months as more and more users are realizing the benefits of the new platform. These enquiries are leading to a steadily increasing number of switching solutions being made available by Pickering Interfaces and LXI is becoming an increasingly important part of our business model. We have just recently released a new publication, LXImate, that describes the LXI standard and its benefits and can be obtained free of charge through our website".

Amongst a variety of products, these latest models deserve attention and will be shown at the Del Mar Electronics Show:

* An extended range of LXI solutions with two new modular LXI chassis, available since November last year:

The 60-102 and 60-103 are 7 and 18 slot modular chassis’ that accept from a choice of over 500 Pickering Interfaces 3U PXI modules. This includes a huge range of switching modules together with additional test functions such as programmable power supplies, battery simulators, attenuators, digital I/O, breadboards and programmable resistor cards.

The range of switching modules supported vary from low power reed relay cards used for low current applications through to Matrices, multiplexer and a range of higher power EMR relay products to RF/microwave and optical switches. Pickering offer the industry’s highest density matrices with up to 9500 relays per chassis. Solid state switching with up to 40A current capacity is supported along with a range of high voltage switching modules. The variety of modules available allows the chassis to be used for a wide variety of switching, control and sensor emulation applications.

Each chassis offers high cooling capacity and smart control of fan speed to ensure quiet operation in office and laboratory environments and high reliability under heavy load conditions. The current condition of the chassis is displayed on front panel status LEDs and can also be monitored remotely via a rear panel RS232 port

The LXI complaint interface permits simple control of the modules and management of the chassis through web pages or an IVI programmatic interface. Ethernet access ensures that the control is robust and simple to access over short or long connection distances.

* The 40-877 is a 50 Ohm 2×2 RF matrix available with 1 or 2 banks in a single PXI slot.

Loop-thru connections are provided on both the X and Y axis allowing the attachment of terminations for unused signals or for expansion to other matrices. Larger matrices are easily built with varied X and Y dimensions, such as 8×2 and 4×4 using multiple 40-877 modules. All versions exhibit low insertion loss and VSWR through the use of modern RF relay technology at an affordable cost. Each matrix has been carefully designed to ensure excellent and repeatable RF characteristics to frequencies of 3GHz. The injection of noise and unwanted signals into the signal paths of the 40-877 has been minimized by careful attention to the mechanical and electrical design.

More about Pickering:

At Pickering, we’re more than just a switching manufacturer. We work closely with our customers to understand their applications as well as their overall requirements. This helps us create unique products and tools that are focused on their needs.

Innovative Aerospace PXI and LXI Solutions

PXI has proved very popular in many demanding military and commercial Aerospace test applications: PXI helps create smaller, faster test solutions and it makes the job of specifying and integrating test stations easier. Pickering provides Avionics Bus interface cards, programmable power supplies, arbitrary waveform/function generators, 71/2 digit DMMs, digitizers, signal conditioning, high current switching, sensor simulators, switching matrices and a wide range of PXI Chassis.

The LXI platform has allowed Pickering to address new applications that could not be easily addressed by other platforms.  The benefit to our Aerospace customers is a test solution that is often smaller, at a lower cost, and exhibiting improved specifications.

When designing functional test applications, Aerospace companies like Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, BAE Systems, General Electric Aviation, Goodrich, Rockwell Collins, Raytheon, Honeywell, Hamilton Sundstrand, Bombardier, and Sikorsky have implemented Pickering solutions all around the globe.Über Pickering Interfaces GmbH

Pickering Interfaces is a market innovator in signal switching and conditioning for a broad range of applications and architectures, with the largest range of switching cards in the industry for PXI, LXI, PCI, VXI and GPIB applications. Pickering Interfaces has provided solutions to both commercial and military applications. In addition, Pickering’s range of instrumentation provides innovative test solutions to users and integrators of modular test systems. Pickering Interfaces operate globally with direct operations in the US, UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Czech Republic, and Engineering support in China, together with additional representation in countries throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia.
