Newtec Introduces New Multistream Products at NAB 2009

(pressebox) St-Niklaas, 09.04.2009, Newtec today announced the launch of 2 new products, the AZ810 Stream Aggregator and the HZ914 Multistream Satellite Receiver, supporting DVB-S2 Multistream technology for the primary distribution of digital terrestrial and mobile TV content over satellite. Multistream is a satellite transmission solution capable of transporting multiple services including, radio, IP, terrestrial and mobile television on a single satellite carrier. Multistream significantly increases satellite bandwidth efficiency and requires fewer modulation devices, reducing OPEX (operational expenditure) and CAPEX (capital expenditure) for broadcasters.

The new Newtec Multistream products AZ810 Stream Aggregator and HZ914 Multistream Satellite Receiver are compliant with the Multistream concept introduced by the DVB-S2 standard. Unlike a traditional DVB multiplexer, this new technology does not modify the original data streams, maintaining the integrity of the original content. This makes Newtec’s Multistream implementation especially suitable for terrestrial TV and mobile TV networks in Single Frequency Networks (SFN) mode.

The AZ810 Stream Aggregator combines up to 6 data streams into a single DVB-S2 modulated Multistream. At the other side of the satellite link the HZ914 Multistream Satellite Receiver is capable of demodulating the DVB-S2 carrier and separating again 4 original data streams.

When compared to a traditional combination of four modulators and four demodulators or IRD’s, the AZ810 + HZ914 setup reduces the number of devices and the corresponding CAPEX investment drastically. On the other hand, this single carrier solution also allows the saturation of the satellite transponder, further increasing the bandwidth efficiency beyond the regular gain provided by the DVB-S2 modulation.

Max d’Oreye, VP Professional Equipment Business Line at Newtec, said: "Multistream is the ideal solution for broadcasters in the current economic climate, as it allows deploying mobile and terrestrial network with a smaller initial investment, and operating these networks at a lower cost. Newtec is the first company to provide end-to-end DVB-S2 Multistream solution to the market.

The new products and the Multistream technology will be demonstrated at NAB 2009 in Las Vegas from April 20th to 23rd at booth C6037.Über Newtec Cy N.V.
