According to Fabio Violante, Neptuny’s CEO, despite the majority of IPTV operators still being implementing their core IPTV services or being mainly focused on ensuring an adequate quality of service, a growing number of IPTV operators are recognizing the business value of recommendation engines for their TV services. "This now even more clear thanks to early adopters that are finally showing convincing results in terms of increased revenues" he said.
During a session at the Technical Symposium, Fabio Violante has reported the experience of a major European IPTV provider, that represents one of the few world-wide production-level adoption of a recommendation engine for VoD. In this case, the implementation of even one simple recommendation mechanism has been proven to boost VoD purchases by a significant rate. "The lesson learned", says Violante, "is that by adopting a stepwise approach, that is by gradually adding personalization features, the implementation of a recommendation engine can demonstrate its ROI in a very short time. In order to make this approach viable and effective, we believe that it is crucial to choose a recommendation engine that provides the right flexibility and easiness of integration".
The huge interest for ContentWise, according to Neptuny confirms that recommendations engines are nowaday being considered by many IPTV providers CXOs as an additional way of finding good revenue opportunities.
