juwi acquires 5,4 MW of Solar Modules from Abound Solar / Germany PV Project is the Largest Abound Solar Implementation to Date; Thin-Film Solar Power Plant to Offset the Energy of 1,400 Homes

Loveland, Colo. & Munich, Germany (ots) – Abound Solar, a leading manufacturer of next-generation thin-film photovoltaic modules today announced that juwi solar GmbH, a general contractor in charge of planning, logistics, and construction management with extensive experience in the development of large-scale solar projects constructed two projects in Jatzke, Germany totaling 5.4MW with Abound Solar’s AB1-series modules. The combined installation, which was completed and connected to the grid in December 2010, will produce 5.500.000kWh/year which is enough energy to offset the annual requirements of approximately 1,400 households. The free-field plants were constructed using mounting systems from Schletter, an Abound Solar Alliance member and non-recourse financed with local banks.

The project in Jatzke, located in northern Germany, benefited from the use of thin-film photovoltaics due to the enhanced performance in low-light conditions. The Jatzke, Germany plant was just the latest example of Juwi incorporating Abound Solar modules into one of its projects. Abound Solar was also deployed as part of a solar plant designed and integrated by juwi in Texas during 2010.

“As one of Abound Solar’s first and largest customers, it seems appropriate that juwi solar has built the largest installation to date of Abound modules.” said Lars Falck, CEO of juwi solar.

“After the successful completion of a project with Abound Solar in Texas, the Jatzke decision was an easy one.” added Carolin Schenuit, PV product manager for juwi solar.

The completion and connection of the largest Abound Solar installation to date is just the most recent in a string of milestones for the company. In March, Abound Solar announced a partnership with Solarsis which will help the company enter India’s fast-growing PV market. In December, the company announced a $400 million loan guarantee from the US Department of Energy and a $110 million round of equity investment to expand manufacturing capacity. The company announced plans to construct the largest thin-film module manufacturing plant in the US in the state of Indiana.

“Projects like these demonstrate the continued partnership between Abound Solar and juwi solar to develop large-scale solar photovoltaic installations” said Tom Tiller, president and CEO of Abound Solar. “We are proud to be working with such established developers like juwi to prove the performance and reliability of Abound Solar modules.”
