MEDION AG: Ad-hoc statement pursuant to section 15 of the German Securities Trading Act (WpHG)
Notification of MEDION’s preliminary financial results for the second quarter of 2010
Strong increase in sales of 37 percent; second-quarter EBIT better than expected
According to preliminary figures strong demand for MEDION’s products – especially notebooks – in its project business (sales up 44 percent to approximately EUR 236 million), coupled with consistent growth in its direct business (sales up 22 percent to approximately EUR 109 million), caused sales to surge from EUR 252 million in the second quarter of 2009 to EUR 345 million in the second quarter of 2010. Owing to movements in the euro and dollar exchange rates, the gross margin remained under pressure, as had already been announced and was evident in the first quarter of the year. Second-quarter earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) rose from EUR 0.5 million in 2009 to approximately EUR 3.0 million in 2010.
